IS IT TRUE THAT NO ONE FILES FOR DIVORCE AFTER JANUARY?
Not really. Sure, most people start calling their divorce lawyers in January. Every New York Divorce Lawyer would agree that business is brisker at the beginning of the year because people tend not to want to file during the holidays. But May and June are also typically high volume months for filing a divorce. In fact, a lot of the people who begin calling their lawyer in January don’t actually file till summer. From August to December, a lot of people figure they might as well wait out the holidays. According to some top divorce lawyers, the reason for this is that they want to get that end of year bonus. Interestingly, if you stay married and file after the Christmas holidays/bonus, you can usually get a piece of the following year’s bonus as well.
