Five year old Haleigh Ann Marie Cummings' disappearance being treated as abduction

Another 5 year old child has disappeared in America (Satsuma Florida) and her disappearance is being treated as an abduction. The child’s name is Haleigh Ann Marie Cummings and she is the daughter of Crystal Sheffield and Ronald Cummings. Mr. Cummings, 25, had custody of the child.
According to MSNBC “Haleigh was last seen at 10 p.m. Monday in bed at her home in the Hermet’s Cove mobile home park where she lived with her father, his 17-year-old girlfriend (Misty Croslin) and her 2-year-old brother.”
Crystal and Ronald were apparently locked in a bitter custody dispute and this was Crystal’s weekend with the kids. Ronald and his girlfriend Misty claim that while Ronald was at work and Misty was sleeping, someone broke into the house and took the child. An Amber Alert has been issued. The child was last seen wearing a pink shirt and underwear in her bed. The last person to see the child was the child’s father’s girlfriend, Misty. And that was at about 10:00 last night.
This is unlikely to be a Hague Convention case. There is no reason to believe that the child was taken out of the country, and since both parents are still living in Florida and have both been interviewed by law enforcement, I think it is safe to say that this case will not have international implications. But see our Hague Convention posts here:
I also don’t think this case will involve the Uniform Child Custody  Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act. But who knows? This investigation is still going on and the police have said, “all the world is a suspect.”
According to MSNBC, “The bounty hunter who also worked on the other Florida Celebrity bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, who was involved in the search for 2-year-old Caylee Anthony who when missing in Orlando last summer, arrived in Satsuma on Wednesday and offered a $25,000 reward if Haleigh is returned before midnight Saturday.”
What can a parent do to ensure that this absolutely doesn’t happen to their child? This is frightening.
