Jaime Pressly of “I love you man” and “My name is Earl” fame opens up to Redbook this month about her split from fiance Eric Cubiche, father of her toddler Dezi James. She basically makes it sound like they broke up because he couldn’t handle the fact that she makes more money than he does.
In a People Magazine article, she had this to say:
“I’d like to be with somebody who isn’t afraid to take care of me – whether they have the same financial means as me or not,” she says. “What’s important is that they realize there are other ways of taking care of me that have [nothing] to do with money. Like cooking me dinner or going to the grocery store or picking up after yourself. Emphasis added.
It would not be all that surprising to learn that her career success got in the way of her man’s pride. Many men still feel like they should be the main breadwinner in the marriage or relationship. And many women still frankly think the same way. While there has been an increase in the number of stay-at-home dads of late (and house-husbands, god help us!) we are still by and large a society that thinks that men should earn more than women.
When that gets turned upside down, relationships have been known to implode. Good luck to Jaime with finding a man who is man enough not to care (or one who makes more than she does). Ditto for Eric the other way around.
