Divorce is the least of Letterman's problems; he could be investigated for sexual harassment

Newly wed David Letterman is kinda having some marital problems. It has been revealed that he’s been having affairs with a few of his subordinates and this must strain his young, 7 month old marriage somewhat. But it’s more than just whether adultery was committed or if it was committed. It’s really that Letterman potentially could be sued for sexual harassment. One of the women at the forefront of the controversy is a former assistant, Stephanie Birkitt who apparently and ALLEGEDLY got her law degree paid in full by Mr. Letterman in exchange for their mutually consensual sexual relationship AND of course, the competent work she did as his assistant on the show.

A recent New York Times article Letterman extortion raises questions for CBS:

Debra S. Katz, a civil rights lawyer who specializes in sexual harassment cases, said it would be “reckless” for CBS not to conduct an internal investigation.
“CBS is definitely going to have to speak with him and find out who he had relationships with,” she said. “They’re going to have to reach back and see if these women think that the relationships were welcome.”
Several longtime associates of Mr. Letterman said he has a long history of pursuing relationships with employees, dating to his first days on television on NBC in the early 1980s. At that time he was known to frequently date interns and other young women connected to his show, one associate said.

That’s slightly perturbing, no? But Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants who are his employers and not CBS says he did not violate any company policies by dating his interns.subordinates. This was no Lewinski situation. But still. It is slightly embarrassing, eh? All this because a CBS producer of such respected shows as 48 hours, Robert Joel Halderman, tried to ALLEGEDLY blackmail the funnyman. It was so dramatic how the whole thing went down. Halderman got his “blackmail check” in Jumeirah Essex House hotel in New York, deposited it, only to have it bounce like a basketball. Oh, and the way he blackmailed Dave? He wrote his threats in a screenplay. Wow, right?
I wouldn’t be surprised if his wife Regine Lasko has thought about divorce at least once in the last 48 hours, though. Unfortunately, even if he did not commit adultery, this sort of stuff can really test a young marriage, I would think.
