SWITZERLAND: Opera Star Roberto Alagna likes having a House of his own, pre-divorce

Romanian born mezzo soprano Angela Gheorghiu has filed for divorce from her  husband, French Sicilian tenor Roberto Alagna. The opera diva and her hubby have both acknowledged that they have been separated for the past two years even though they have continued to perform together as recently as 2008. However, in August this year, Ms. Gheorghiu, according to published reports, withdrew from the first six performances of the Met’s new production of Bizet’s Carmen when she was scheduled to sing opposite Alagna.
The two stars enjoyed a rather flamboyant wedding on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in 1996. But things didn’t work out quite as melodiously as they had anticipated and so they’ve been living separate lives for some time.
Says Alagna:  “I thought that it would be hard [living on my own these past two years], but I feel serene and free.”
Nothing like a married person having a house of their own to really accelerate a divorce proceeding, eh? (Btw, Greg Norman and Chris Evert also had homes of their own and their marriage combusted in under two years.)
That might make an interesting blog post: Is having a house of your own while your married a predicate to premature divorce? I wonder what Virginia Woolf would think about that?
