UTAH: Divorce, Doma and a letter from the Roman Catholic Bishops

Catholic bishops have come out in defense of Marriage. In a letter that was published in the Salt Lake Tribune, they said in part:

Marriage equality is a menace to “the intrinsic dignity of every human person, and the common good”……… “The legal recognition of same-sex unions poses a multifaceted threat to the very fabric of society, striking at the very source from which society and culture come.” .

The letter also brands contraceptives and couples living together without being married as “intrinsically evil,” the article reports.
A lot of what they say may make sense to a lot of people. But obviously, they don’t really believe that contraceptives are a bad idea, right? Because, in the alternative, will the church feed the resulting children? How can contraceptives be evil as opposed to bringing children into this world and not being able to properly care for them? Hunger, homelessness, clothesless and poverty-sickenedness in children are evil and this evil can be prevented by the use of birth control – particularly in light of the fact that the church is anti-abortion.
This aspect of their letter is totally without merit. Contraceptives are a good and civilized thing for a society such as the world’s where resources are finite.
