Arlen Specter gets dumped

Oops. Poor Arlen Specter was spectacularly spat upon by smarting anti-secessionists.

WASHINGTON — Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, who bolted the Republican Party more than a year ago in a bid to salvage his Senate career as a Democrat, was defeated in a primary for his new party’s nomination on Tuesday, as Democratic primary voters turned against him and selected Rep. Joe Sestak for the nomination. NYT

The 80 year old octogenarian and his wife Joan waved, sullen-faced at supporters and sabateurs alike.

It’s been a great privilege to serve the people of Pennsylvania,” said Mr. Specter, looking drawn and downcast as he delivered a brief concession speech. “And I’ll be working hard for the people of Pennsylvania very hard for the coming months.” NYT

Poor Mr. Specter. But if I were him, at that age, I’d just retire and spend the rest of my days relishing the beauty, peace and solace of holy matrimony. I wouldn’t be in politics. Look at what happened to poor whatshisface? Souder today. He had to resign due to an extramarital affair. If he’s not careful his wife will ask for a divorce as a matter of fact. Mr. Spector doesn’t seem to know how lucky he is. At least he’s not getting divorced. At least his wife still loves him and supports him. At least he doesn’t have to worry about her dumping him.
