CALIFORNIA: Divorce attorney gunned down in restaurant during court recess of divorce case

Divorce attorneys should be sobered by this case of California divorce attorney Judy Solely who was gunned down by her client’s husband while on recess from the couple’s divorce hearing. This is a textbook case for my argument that the entire practice of divorce law should be abolished and divorcing couples should handle their own divorce and be solely responsible for the outcome of their marriage and divorce:

Soley, who was known as a tough divorce lawyer, also was a Downtown Fresno Rotary Club chairwoman and president of Fresno County’s women’s lawyers association.
She was one of the first attorneys to be certified as a family law specialist by the State Bar of California, said Judge Kimberly Nystrom-Geist, presiding family law judge of the Fresno Superior Court and Soley’s former law partner.
“Judy’s wit, intelligence and determination were unequaled,” Nystrom-Geist said. “Judy will never be forgotten. Those of us who had the good fortune to be her friends and family will forever be in her debt for the impact she had on our lives.”
“Judy Soley was widely respected as a tenacious divorce lawyer,” said Phoebe Wall Howard, a former columnist at The Fresno Bee. “The best lawyers in town sent their toughest divorce cases to Judy Soley. She was so effective that even lawyers called her the lawyer’s divorce lawyer.”
