Are the victim of international child abduction?

Parental child abductions continue to be an enormous problem around the world. No country is immune. Many of these abductions occur after a divorce but some occur even when the parties had never married. Many international organizations and conventions are involved in helping to find and relocate abducted children. These include but are not limited to:
 

WHAT CAN YOU DO IF YOUR CHILD IS ABOUT TO BE OR HAS BEEN ABDUCTED?:

  1. Enroll the child in the Children’s Passport Issuance Alert Program
  2. Contact the police and make a report
  3. Obtain a court order to stop the parent from relocating with the child and/or to change custody
  4. Contact the embassy or consulate where you are or where the child has been taken
  5. Contact the US Department of State at  PreventAbduction1@state.gov
  6. Contact the airline where you think the child will be taken

 
SOME RECENT INTERNATIONAL CHILD ABDUCTION CASES IN THE NEWS:
Belfast, Ireland& Luthuania:
“The UK Supreme Court has overruled a decision by the Belfast Court of Appeal in respect of a Lithuanian woman living in Northern Ireland who was alleged to have abducted the son she had left with her parents in her home country for 7 years. More
Spain & England:
“A woman who returned to England with her son in breach of an order by a Spanish court has been told that she must return the boy to his father.
The Family Division of the High Court in London heard that the couple met in Spain and had a five year relationship before separating. The two parents overcame drug addiction problems and the father has spent five months in jail in respect of drug trafficking offences. A Spanish court ruled the son should live with his father in Spain but the mother fled to England with him. She has been told that the Spanish order must be enforced, but that she could of course apply again for custody when she returns to Spain.” More
Mexico & the United States:
American man who fled with his 8 year old daughter to Hildago Mexico is ordered to return his daughter to Florida. More
Latvia & UK:
English Court orders mother to return her Young son to his father in Latvia. More 
Argentina & the United States: “Maria Belen Francesconi is wanted for her alleged involvement in the kidnapping of her son, Michael Alexander Reyes, from Miami, Florida. Francesconi no longer has legal custody of Michael.
On August 31, 2008, shortly after the birth of her son, Michael, Francesconi travelled to Argentina to visit family with Michael. Michael’s father, Miguel Reyes, authorized the foreign travel with the agreement that Francesconi would return to the United States with their son. However, Francesconi never returned to the United States and ceased all contact with Reyes. Michael was located by Interpol in Argentina.” more
