Former New York Socialite and "It" Girl Tinsley Mortimer Gets Her Post-Divorce Groove Back on Real Housewives of New York

Tinsley Randolf Mortimer used to be the hottest thing at all the New York galas and parties. The pretty 41 year old blond and her sister Dabney ruled Tinsel town in a way that Paris and Nicky Hilton never could on their best day.

Tinsley is as famous for her marriage to her high schools sweetheart Topper Mortimer as she was for their divorce. The two were seen at all the social events of the day and he gave her respectability – being that he is the great-grandson of the chairman of Standard Oil. They were seen everywhere there were important party-goers and she really made a name for herself to the point that she became the ambassador for Dior and had a lipstick and handbag line.

That was just eight short years ago. Then she divorced Topper, or he divorced her and then she starred on a short lived, cringe-worthy reality show that got canceled quickly and then she moved to Palm Beach where she was arrested for trespassing on her new ex-boyfriend’s front lawn while he was allegedly inside the house with another woman. According to the Post, Tinsley was embroiled in a shockingly abusive relationship with this guy and the Post called it a “tragic downfall.” In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Tinsley discussed her time and the arrest:

In April, Mortimer was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, for trespassing at the home of her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Alexander “Nico” Fanjul, her mug shot all over the Internet and social media. It wasn’t the couple’s first run-in with the authorities; police were called to Fanjul’s residence no fewer than four times over the course of their three and a half years together.

According to police reports, their arguments occasionally got physical, though no charges against either party, other than the trespassing charge, were ever filed. Mortimer says their relationship was passionate, but also tumultuous in a way that she’d become conditioned to accept, and as difficult as it was, the arrest helped her break free of the spell. “You lose yourself, you get so caught up in this thing and this other world and this life,” she says. “Being arrested saved my life, just giving me an opportunity to understand the good in my life.”

All her enemies were rejoicing and ex-husband Topper Mortimer remained curiously silent through it all, though the two reportedly are still very good friends. Though they separated in 2009, their divorce was only finalized in 2013. Reportedly they divorced because of Tinsley addiction to fame. Tinsley herself has acknowledged in the Bazaar interview that she has made serious mistakes and that she took a lot of things for granted:

During her halcyon days in the mid-aughts, Mortimer had all the makings of a true swan: a Southern belle from Virginia who graduated with a degree in art history from Columbia University and married her high school sweetheart, the Standard Oil scion Topper Mortimer. With her long blonde tresses and penchant for poufy party dresses, she became the most sought-after celebutant in New York, sitting front row at fashion shows and serving on host committees for major society affairs. She made cameos on Gossip Girl, and Dior named a lip gloss, Tinsley Pink, after her.

In 2007, The New York Times noted that Mortimer had appeared in more than 2,000 images on nightlife photographer Patrick McMullan’s Web site in a span of less than four years. “There’s stuff I look back at now and I’m like, Oh, my God, the dresses that were being sent to me, and I’m front row, and the designers I knew, and going to these glam parties—these are things I took for granted,” Mortimer says. “People thought that I had all the money in the world and that I was this little perfect princess posing with her hand on her hip and her blonde hair and her curls. That was an image I portrayed, and it ended up biting me in the ass.”

She has also admitted that she wants her old life with Topper back so time will tell if there will be a reconciliation. Those two know each other nearly two decades now.

Meanwhile, Tinsley has come back to senses and has moved back to New York where the BRAVO franchise Real Housewives of New York just snatched her up. She is also working on a candle and furniture line which you can find out more about at her website www.tinsleymortimer.com. And she is hoping to find new love very soon (if not with Topper, then somebody else.)
